A Spa Retreat In Your Own Bathroom!
If you’re anything like me, after working hard Monday through Friday – the first thing I crave on Saturday morning is a quiet relaxing bath followed by a steam facial and perhaps a manicure. That would usually require a trip to the local day spa, but with a few updates to modernize your bathroom – you can bring the spa feel right to your home!
There are a few key components to creating a spa bathroom and those things are calming colors, soft decor and lighting, and natural textures in furniture and material.
Colors: We go to the spa to wind down and the ultimate goal is total relaxation. Wall and decor colors are an essential aspect to recreating your bathroom spa retreat. Warm neutral colors are your best bet. Browns, sage greens and even an earthy yellow are all colors that are restful. Avoid stark white as it is typically a very cold and clinical color and on the contrary avoid bright vibrant colors because they scream vibrant and energy.
*Tip – If you spend time applying your make up in the bathroom, select a paint color that also compliments your skin tone. If you have natural red undertones in your complexion – hues with a green hint may clash when applying your makeup in the mirror.
Soft Decor and Lighting: Bright lighting and loud decor is the total antithesis to a spa like atmosphere, so lighting and other decor play a major role in accomplishing the in-home retreat feel that you’re looking for. Natural lighting will work best to achieve this effect, so if your bathroom has windows or a skylight then you’re a step ahead of things here. If not, look for light coverings that provide a softening to bulbs.Halogen light bulbs are also a great alternative. The decor should also be in soft metal and muted tones. Avoid bright chrome or brass fixtures.
*Tip – if you have the budget to include this in your remodel project, consider installing a dimmer for your bathroom lighting. This will allow you to quickly and easily go from brighter lighting to a soft light as necessary.
